Fire Cider Oxymel
LEVEL: MEDIUM
Immunity Building Oxymel
Fire Cider is a Fall/Winter staple in our herbal medicine cabinet. We take it at the first signs of a cold (a scratchy throat or cough), anytime we feel run down or cold, or as a immune-boosting supplement.
An oxymel is an elixir of herbs infused in vinegar and honey. A Fire Cider Oxymel is simply fire cider with honey added. You can make a regular fire cider, but adding honey often balances the intensity of the acid (apple cider vinegar) and goes down a lot smoother. It can also be used as a salad dressing or marinade!
Recipe
2-3 C Apple Cider Vinegar (with the "Mother")
1 C Honey
Garlic Cloves
Ginger/Turmeric Root
Horseradish
Peppercorn
Jalapeno
Fruit (lemon, orange, cranberries)
Pantry Herbs (Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano)
Medicinal Herbs (Lavender, Nettle, Astragalus, Ashwaghandha, Reishi, Lion's Mane)
Chop or Blend your ingredients.
In a dry, clean 32oz mason jar, fill to the top with your ingredients.
Add apple cider vinegar and honey in a 3:1 ratio (you can also choose a ratio of up to 1:1).
Cover with parchment paper and then mason jar lid. The parchment paper will prevent corrosion of your lid.
Store for 3-6 weeks in a cool, dark place (like a kitchen cabinet or pantry closet).
Strain and use this immunity building oxymel when feeling under the weather (1-2 tbsp), daily when sick, as salad dressing, or as a marinade,
